Friday Evening Address by Alice A. Bailey

With questions and discussion with advanced students

On this evening, in place of the usual discourse and conversation, AAB read a new 17-page article by DK entitled The New World Religion. Although the new world religion had been mentioned in passing as early as the 1930s, this was the first in-depth presentation. It was also the first time the New World Religion was linked specifically to the three major spring Full Moon Festivals (and the three minor ones), meant to replace the traditional church rituals and observances. That portion of the article describing the three spring festivals, so familiar to students of DKs writings, achieved classic status, eventually appearing in three of the published volumes: The Reappearance of the Christ, Problems of Humanity and The Externalisation of the Hierarchy.

This article evidently received wide distribution, well beyond the group of students for whom DK did most of His writing. A note appended to the talk says that 5,000 copies were to be sent to Catholic and Protestant churches.

This article is not reproduced here because it is easy to get the gist of it by reading The New World Religion in The Externalisation of the Hierarchy by AAB, pages 402-422. The first part of the article was removed in this version, probably because its discussion of the problems in the churches was aimed more toward the general public; however, those who are interested can find it reproduced on pages 137 to 140 (middle) of The Reappearance of the Christ.

Due to the length of the article, the group response was postponed until the following Friday, May 14.
